Craft ~ Adriana Locke ~ New Release and Review

Title: Craft
Series: The Gibson Boys #2
Author: Adriana Locke
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 14, 2018

Blurb

They’re not quite enemies. Not really friends. More like frustrated balls of sexual tension and neither will give in.

Lance Gibson drives Mariah Malarkey absolutely crazy. He uses her office like a phone booth, takes cupcakes from the corner of her desk like she baked them just for him. She didn’t. Maybe she knew the history teacher happened to love peanut butter icing, but that was purely a coincidence. All sixteen times.

Mariah has a way of getting under Lance’s skin too. She calls him out on his crap, spoils him even if inadvertently, and seeing the librarian in skirts drives him wild. She won’t give in. It’s for the best, really, considering there’s no way he could lie to a woman like that and he’s not about to tell her the truth about himself. Not in a million years.

These two don’t hate each other. They don’t really like each other. But for this to be a friends-to-lovers story, they have to start somewhere, right?

Note: This can be read as a standalone novel.

Craft is a fun take on a not exactly friends to lovers romance.
Lance and Mariah are both fun characters to get to know and both bring a truck load of baggage to the table. It was fun watching them move from a semi antagonistic flirtation to a friendship to something a little bit more before that baggage showed up to sabotage the blossoming relationship.
I especially enjoyed watching Lance transition from his different women all the time mentality to something more mature and long lasting, especially when the reason for his previously ant-relationship stance was revealed.
I also appreciated Mariah's evolution to a stronger female role. I worried a first that her reaction to Lance's attention would make her weaker, but it seemed that spending time together unlocked something in her that made her even stronger when all of that baggage reared it's ugly head.
As entertaining as Lance and Mariah are, the secondary cast adds a humorous flair that rounded out the story perfectly. As a continuation in the series, many of the secondary cast are people that we've met before. Lance is also a bit of a richer character here because of getting to see some of him in Crank (book 1). That said, one of my favorite things about this series is that each book really does stand on it's own and reading the series in order is not required .
Craft is a great combination of humor, family, friendship, and what it really means to love.
