Some Sort of Love ~ Melanie Harlow ~ NEW RELEASE and REVIEW

SSOL- Blog Tour Banner   Some Sort Of Love cover
On the surface, I have it all—a career I adore, a loving family, the Nixon metabolism but not the Nixon ears, and a salary that supports my lavish taste in designer shoes, fine wine, and lacy lingerie…but I have no one to share it with.
Until the day I run into him—my one night stand from college with the cocky smile, let’s-get-out-of-here eyes, and dirty, dirty mouth.
Levi Brooks is six feet four inches of hot bearded fantasy. A sexy single dad with broad shoulders, strong hands, and a fantastically big…heart. (I mean, it’s massive. And generous. And it pumps so hard… um. Sorry. Lost my place.)
But he lives for his son, and he's keeping me at a distance because he thinks I deserve someone better—a man who can give me more time, more attention, more of himself. He doesn’t believe he could ever be enough.
But he's wrong.
He’s everything.

In Some Sort of Love, Jillian is going to her younger sister's wedding and feeling a little sorry for herself for being single and 30. She boosts herself up by reminding herself about how much she has accomplished professionally, but she is still lonely. While at the wedding she literally runs into her college one-night stand, Levi.

It was fun watching Jillian and Levi reconnect and get to know each other. We learn that in addition to both of them being smart and successful (she's a pediatrician and he's an architect) he is also solo parenting an 8 year son who is autistic.

Jillian and Levi are two characters that are genuinely entertaining together. The magnetic connection they had the one night in college is in full force when they reconnect 10 years later and that is displayed in the plentiful sexy times they enjoy. I loved that "Dad Levi" made him that much more attractive to Jillian and that she was willing to embrace his son from the very beginning.

Ms. Harlow did an excellent job of giving us a glimpse into the life of an autistic child and the lengths that parents go through to make that life work. Levi's guilt at taking anything for himself comes off the page and it completely heartbreaking, especially when it comes between two people who should obviously be together.

My one complaint is that we go from conflict to happy ending very quickly. Granted, the resolution was simple and the implication is that several months have passed, but we don't get to see any of the hard work that went into it. Given the amount of time spent dealing with how Levi and his son were dealing with his autism, it would have been nice to see Jillian's handling of the situation as well. Overall, Some Sort of Love is a fun quick read. It makes me curious to go back and read the prior books in the Happy Crazy Love series.
