Blindsided (The Fighter Series #1) ~ T.C. Matson ~ Review

He’s everything I’ve never wanted—an egotistical womanizing MMA fighter. Yes, he’s easy on the eyes with a body to die for, blue eyes to fall into, and a smile that will make your heart skip beats. His smell is intoxicating, and he’s fun to be around, but I’m not interested in being another notch in his bed post. I can’t lie and say I haven’t thought about what it would be like, I have. Unfortunately, I know a woman like me can’t make a man like him settle down.

Look at me, I’m everything she wants—a sexy MMA fighter who no one can resist. What? I can’t help they all want me. I know she fantasizes about my naked body on top of hers, who doesn’t? But she has a telltale sign—her glassy green eyes, her crimson red cheeks, and the sweat that glistens her face—she wants me. I’ve never had to chase, you know, put in effort to get the girl in bed, but she is sending me on the longest treasure hunt I’ve ever experienced. Not even my smile can make her panties drop. But somehow, somewhere in the mix of chasing her, I’ve developed feelings. This cannot be happening.

3.5 stars - Worth A Reader's Time

This is a book that I honestly liked right up until the end, then I was a little frustrated by it.

We meet Paige and Levi the day that they first meet each other. She is a hard working waitress/bartender who catches his attention and holds it when she doesn't fall for his advances right away. He is an up and coming fighter who is used to getting what he wants.

I enjoyed Paige's sense of self worth and her feisty attitude. Levi's arrogance and determination were entertaining and some of his first person dialogue was hilarious. These two spent a lot - almost too much- of time dancing back and forth as "friends" before Paige decided to go for it with Levi. Once they were together, the chasing on again/off again continued and sometimes felt repetitive. I have the sense that the ending was meant to intrigue us for the next installment. It did that, but it also left me with a sense of the book being unfinished.

This is a debut work and shows a lot of promise by the author. I definitely want to see what happens to Paige and Levi next, but I do feel like more of their story could have been told here.

Hooked By Love ~ Toni Aleo ~ NEW RELEASE and REVIEW

Hooked By Love is finally here!

But to understand the end - you must first start from the beginning...

*** *** *** *** *** *** ***

(Bellevue Bullies #1)

Jude Sinclair here, hockey player for the Bellevue Bullies and lover of all ladies. Hockey’s in my blood, and not to sound full of myself, but I’m good at it…really good. The draft is within my reach—it’s mine to take—but that’s not the only reason people know my name. They know me because of my way with women. They know the score, and I aim to please. I just tend to stay away from repeat performances. In other words, I don’t do relationships beyond my family and friends. I’m happy with life. However, I should warn you that my story and how I see it playing out is about to change due to a certain redhead on campus.
She’s beautiful. Stunning. Breathtaking.
She’s my game changer.
*** He’s trouble from the moment I see him. I don’t know what I’m thinking, but from the moment I meet his gaze, I’m his. It’s a scary feeling.
I’ve never trusted anyone outside my aunt and uncle—and even that took months. I didn’t have it easy growing up. My mom was usually strung out, and she didn’t give me a second thought. Drugs and the men who paid her were more important to her. It was horrible, but I’m stronger today. Because of my past, security is what I need most. Money assures me that I can take care of myself today, tomorrow, and next month. I don’t want to ever be hungry or go without again, so I work hard for every penny.
Oh, by the way, I’m Claire Anderson. I’m a hard-studying sophomore at the University of Bellevue, dancer for the school dance team, and a burlesque dancer at a club, but that’s my secret.
You may think you know how our story ends, but you have no clue. It’s not easy falling in love… or living happily ever after. At first it may seem so, but when is anything worth having ever won without a fight?
Especially when you’re boarded by love.

(Bellevue Bullies #2)

Things are heating up for the Sinclair boys! With one already in the NHL, Jayden Sinclair is hoping to be next!
This has been the toughest year of my life. I watched my brother go into the draft without me, my mom got divorced, and the weight of my family’s issues is heavy on my shoulders. I feel like it’s my job to fix everything while working my butt off in school and trying to make my game better. I have to go into the draft. It will give my family the support they need, and it will prove that I’m good enough. But to get there, I have to show I can be the best captain for the Bellevue Bullies. The spot is mine—no one can take it. First though, Jude is making me go on a brother’s weekend. Innocent enough, I guess…until I see her. She’s the biggest competitor I’ve ever faced. Not only for my spot but also my heart. It’s hard to ignore someone like Baylor Moore.
I don’t lose. I can’t. My dad has bred me to be the best in anything I do. I am driven, I am smart, and I am going to be the first woman in the National Hockey League. No two ways about it. I’ve worked too hard. I’ve been through too much not to have what I want. I know I can do it. I will make my dad proud, and no one will stand in the way of that. That is, until I let him in. He scares me. He makes me feel. And he could very well be the one person who can make me want more than just to win.
We both have the same goal. Victory. But how do you compete against the person you want to win? It’s not easy. Love isn’t something you can control. It isn’t like a puck that can be handled by a stick.
No, it has a mind of its own and does what it wants. Neither of us saw it coming, and we really don’t know if there is a way to score, especially when you’re being Clipped by Love.

And now... I am proud to FINALLY introduce you all to:

(Bellevue Bullies #3)

Hooked by Love-high
Things are out of control for the Sinclair boys! With two already in the NHL, Jace Sinclair is ready to follow in his brothers’ HUGE skates in the last Bellevue Bullies novel…
Jace Sinclair here, and I’m amazing. There is no other way to describe me. I am the leading scorer for the Bellevue Bullies, I’m the captain, and people love me: my family, my teammates, my coach, and the NHL. This is my last year in college–I already have one foot in the draft. Hockey keeps me warm even when it’s freezing. It’s always there when nothing else is. And it pushes me to be the best I can be. It’s my one and only love.
That is, until I see her against a tree with a guitar.
The last thing I wanted was to meet anyone. My heart is on the bench because of what happened with my parents, and I don’t want that for myself. I don’t want to be hurt by anyone. I can’t give them that power.
But my heart is begging for ice time, and I can’t control it around her.
* * *
I’ve always been in the background. No one has ever had time for me and that’s fine; I’ve learned to cope. Coming from a family where hockey is life, the last thing I want is some big, burly hockey player charging at me. I don’t have time for it, but Jace Sinclair isn’t one to be deked around.
I didn’t want to meet anyone. I didn’t want to end up freezing the puck with him. It’s not what I want.
I have demons.
I have issues.
Living in the shadows, no one even knew until it was too late. But Jace wants to know. He wants me.
And that scares me the living hell out of me.
We were so worried about what would happen if we fell, but we never thought what could happen in the process of falling. We never saw it coming. But it’s here, and the repercussions are not pretty.
We should have known that there is no way out of the zone when you are being Hooked by Love.

I have to admit that I am a fan of Toni Aleo's Assassin series, but this is the first chance I've had to read one of the Bellevue Bullies books. I was a little worried about coming in on the third book of the series, but it wasn't an issue at all - this works great as a stand alone book.

I enjoyed Jace and Avery as a couple and their "love at first sight" story. Jace's sense of humor and devotion to his family were awesome. I loved (a could relate to) the sense of empowerment Avery had for going off on her own to try for her dream. Neither character is perfect and they openly acknowledge their flaws and issues. But, there were times when I struggled a little bit with the believability of their relationship - especially since they were both so young. Jace frequently came across as too good to be true. Avery's history with her family and health caused her to keep things from Jace, which made sense, the sheer number of times it happened seemed to be drama for the sake of drama and detracted from the story for me.

As expected, Hooked on Love is well written and includes great family and friend relationships as well as the romantic relationship between Jace and Avery. People who have read the prior Bellevue books will be glad to know that Jude and Jayden make several appearances in the books so you can get caught up on them. Overall, a fun book that I enjoyed and I am looking forward to going back to read the prior books in the series.

Catching Fox ~ Aimee McNeil ~ NEW RELEASE and REVIEW

To be released December 22, 2015
A chance meeting between two young souls is all it took...
When Adalynne Fairweather was just a child, her entire life had already been planned. From Ivy League schools to a career in law, adventure was the one thing out of her reach. That was until a boy with bright green eyes and a monster truck t-shirt wandered into her back yard, giving the adventure she longed for. Refuge can be found in the most unlikely places… Damon Knight’s abusive home life left him longing for a childhood he never had—until he wandered into Adalynne’s yard. She took his hand, smiled at him, and even gave him a nickname. Fox. The woods became their escape—a place to flee from reality. He discovered music through Adalynne’s piano, and not long after that, she gave him a guitar. Little did he know that gift would change his life forever. Years later, their age is not the only thing that’s changed... Adalynne’s love for Fox took on a life of its own. As they begin to build their lives, her heart aches for him in ways she can’t understand. As they slowly begin to drift apart, Adalynne becomes more desperate to cling to their secret romance. But Fox is no longer the bright-eyed child from the woods. Her shy, beautiful Fox has grown into a dark, troubled man with a guitar. And when her last attempt to salvage their relationship breaks Adalynne’s heart, catching Fox a second time seems just out of her reach.

This is my second book by Aimee McNeil and I have to admit that I liked this one better. I don't know if it was the story or the author becoming a more seasoned story teller, but I really did enjoy this book more than the previous effort.

Six year old Adalynne befriends six year old Damon and a lifelong relationship develops. Their friendship is its own little world where they are Bee and Fox and the outside doesn't exist. Fast forward 12 years and Damon breaks her heart for the first time and walks out of her life. We follow Adalynne as she tries to make her way through the world and forget about her Fox. Life brings them together over and over just to have him push her away again.

There were times when the storytelling felt a little stiff, but overall I enjoyed Adalynne's story. It was refreshing to watch her blossom into a strong young woman who pushed against her boundaries to live the life she wanted. It was nice to see her invest in the people, projects, and relationships that were important to her. Catching Fox is told from Adalynne's point of view and I would have enjoyed knowing more about Fox early on. His character was frustrating and I didn't understand Addie's connection with him until much later when a secret was revealed. Overall, Catching Fox is worth the time to read. I am looking forward to see what the author has for us next.

It seems the things worth keeping are often the hardest to hold...
KAI I had two things in life that mattered. My mother and my music. Mama was taken from me too soon, and now music is all I have left. It’s the thing that’s pushed me right out of backwoods Georgia into Los Angeles, where the line between fantasy and reality shimmers and blurs. I’m finally making my way, making my mark. I can’t afford to fall for one of music's brightest stars. Not now. Music is all I have left, and I’m holding on tight with both hands. I won’t let go, not even for Rhyson Gray. RHYSON I had one thing in my life that mattered – music. The only constant, it’s taken me to heights most people only dream about; a gift dropped in my lap at birth. I thought it was enough. I thought it was everything until I met Kai. Now she’s all I think about, like a song I can't get out of my head. If I have to chase her, if I have to give up everything - I will. And once she's mine, I won't let go.

4.5 Stars - One of the Best Books I've Read

Review Copy Provided by Author

Friends to lovers is one of my favorite themes in books and in My Soul To Keep, Kennedy Ryan takes the idea to a whole new level. Kai is a young woman who put her dreams of singing and dancing on hold when her mother became ill. Rhyson is a jaded super star who didn’t have a true childhood. A chance encounter brings these two together and they instantly connect. Kai resists the attraction and insists that they can just be friends. Ms. Ryan does a fantastic job of pulling you into the story of the budding friendship/relationship between Kai and Rhys. There is a sense that both of them know that what they have is much more than a friendship, but that Rhys is working very hard at respecting the boundaries Kai has set up. I got the feeling that part of the reason these two worked as well as they did was due to Kai’s boundaries. The fact that she resisted the initial attraction set her apart for Rhys from the “normal” girl who went after him. The difference made him curious and the curiosity ended up opening him up in ways that he normally wouldn’t. The friendship also served a purpose for Kai in helping her heal some of the wounds grief caused. Even though we knew where these two were headed, I loved it when they finally managed to get things right and get together. The transition from friends to lovers was rocky for Kai and Rhys, but I loved how they stood together and stood up for each other when things got rough. My Soul To Keep is an emotional story with roller coasters of highs and lows. Rhys and Kai are both wonderful characters, but they are both also flawed people who make mistakes. Some of those mistakes are whoppers and still need to be dealt with (I can’t wait for the next book!). There is also an interesting supporting cast, some of whom I liked more than others and some of whom I think have a role to play in whether or not our wonderful characters will get things worked out or not. One of the things I loved about this book is that we actually got to see the building friendship then the transition to a more romantic relationship. Ms. Ryan’s excellent story telling pulls you into the story and makes you invest in what these people are feeling. She has me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment of the Soul series.

Reader Favorites 2015 ~ Part 2

Thank you to everyone who nominated and voted for the books listed in our Reader Favorites of 2015. I wish we could have included all 50 of the nominees! Here are the second set of 10 books, in no particular order.

Buck: I lost her before. It won't happen again. I gave her up and broke her heart for her own good. Now, my second chance has gone to shit. Lou's not the same good girl I left. She's turned bad, but it makes me want her more. The world loves me for my bad boy ways, on screen and off. They'll love us together-once I convince her she's missed me. Lou: When I was young, only he saw the real me. I don't need Buck Wylder anymore; I'll take care of myself. He went to Hollywood. I became a Marine. Buck's back and he's the same arrogant, infuriatingly attractive man who left. Only this time? I'm not falling for him. I thought I escaped my past, but when his fame drags me into the spotlight, the world sees the truth. I'm poor Loula Mae-daughter of a junkie and her pimp. To them, I'm just SO. TRASHY.

Harper Connelly never expected to find herself outside of a tattoo parlor at one in the morning, summoning the nerve to take back her past. She's determined to forget her old life and is looking for an artist who can tattoo over the scars on her back. Trent Andrews, local legend and owner of the Second Circle tattoo studio, has his own reasons for specializing in inking over scars. And in spite of her mysterious past and the difficult road ahead, he quickly realizes that Harper is funny, smart, and--under her ridiculously oversized clothing and SPF 100 sunscreen--totally hot. He's happy to take on the challenge of designing a meaningful and deadly full-back tattoo for her. But when cryptic messages start appearing on Harper's phone, strange deliveries arrive at her door, and Second Circle is vandalized, Harper is convinced that her ex-boyfriend has tracked her down, and worse, that he knows about Trent. Running was the only thing that saved her last time, but now that she's started to put down roots in Miami, she'll have to decide if she can finally fight back instead.

Book one and two in the King series.
Homeless. Hungry. Desperate. Doe has no memories of who she is or where she comes from. A notorious career criminal just released from prison, King is someone you don’t want to cross unless you’re prepared to pay him back in blood, sweat, sex or a combination of all three. King’s future hangs in the balance. Doe’s is written in her past. When they come crashing together, they will have to learn that sometimes in order to hold on, you have to first let go.
I. Remember. Everything. But the relief I thought I would feel never comes, and I’m more afraid now than I was the morning I woke up handcuffed in King’s bed. Because with the truth comes dark secrets I was never meant to know. I will put the lives of those I love most at risk if I let on that my memory has returned, or if I seek help from the heavily tattooed felon who owns me body and soul. I don’t know if I’m strong enough to resist the magnetic pull toward King that grows stronger every day. He’s already saved me in more ways than one. Now it’s my turn to do whatever it takes to save him. Even if that means marrying someone else…

If I tell you right up front, right in the beginning that I lost him, it will be easier for you to bear. You will know it’s coming, and it will hurt. But you’ll be able to prepare. Someone found him in a laundry basket at the Quick Wash, wrapped in a towel, a few hours old and close to death. They called him Baby Moses when they shared his story on the ten o’clock news – the little baby left in a basket at a dingy Laundromat, born to a crack addict and expected to have all sorts of problems. I imagined the crack baby, Moses, having a giant crack that ran down his body, like he’d been broken at birth. I knew that wasn’t what the term meant, but the image stuck in my mind. Maybe the fact that he was broken drew me to him from the start. It all happened before I was born, and by the time I met Moses and my mom told me all about him, the story was old news and nobody wanted anything to do with him. People love babies, even sick babies. Even crack babies. But babies grow up to be kids, and kids grow up to be teenagers. Nobody wants a messed up teenager. And Moses was messed up. Moses was a law unto himself. But he was also strange and exotic and beautiful. To be with him would change my life in ways I could never have imagined. Maybe I should have stayed away. Maybe I should have listened. My mother warned me. Even Moses warned me. But I didn’t stay away. And so begins a story of pain and promise, of heartache and healing, of life and death. A story of before and after, of new beginnings and never-endings. But most of all...a love story.

At twenty-two years old, Sydney is enjoying a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers that Hunter is cheating on her—and she’s forced to decide what her next move should be. Soon, Sydney finds herself captivated by her mysterious and attractive neighbor, Ridge. She can't take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either. They soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one. A passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance, Maybe Someday will immerse readers in Sydney’s tumultuous world from the very first page.

Promises are lies dressed up for the party. Secrets poison the fairest of fairy tales. Lies stain the purest of loves. I've paid the ultimate price for my choices. The tendrils of those sins bind me to my past. The remnants of my love hold me captive. Then he walks into my life and makes me believe in second chances. He awakens feelings in my I know I shouldn't have. I yearn for a future without guilt. With him, I dream of a love untainted. Regret is a far reaching emotion. It barrels through time like a blazing comet, and its path isn't always straight. No matter what I feel, I cannot bring myself to regret the time I've spent with Cain. But it doesn't mean I can have him. My name is Celia Lemaire, and this is my story of broken promises. Storms Over Secrets is the third book of The Over Series, a group of interconnected stand alone novels. This book is a new adult romance. It is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

In this modern retelling of “Hansel and Gretel,” 13-year-old foster children, Holden and Griselda, escape from their abductor after three years of brutal captivity and try to cross the Shenandoah River on foot. Tragically, one of them makes it to safety but the other is left behind. Ten years later, Griselda’s boyfriend drags her to a fight club grudge match where her world is turned upside down when she watches Holden step into the ring. Though the connection between them is fierce, bitter regret, simmering rage and a cache of physical and emotional scars lie between them, just as dangerous as the whitewater of the Shenandoah. Never Let You Go is a story of fear and hope, defeat and survival, and two people - once profoundly broken – who discover that love is the only thing that can make them whole again. This is a standalone novel inspired by Hansel & Gretel. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to profanity, scenes of physical abuse and very strong sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18. (Note: children are not sexually abused in this book.)

From Book 1: Opposites in every way, Chase and Arianna have been bitter rivals since childhood. Constantly in competition, they fight incessantly, making it nearly impossible for them to be in the same room with each other. Until they slept together. Sex changes everything. In one emotional evening, they go from enemies to lovers. Hate quickly evolves into passionate lust, but old habits die hard. The love growing between them can’t erase a lifetime of animosity. The two quickly fall back into old routines of spite and vengeance, and their relationship crumbles under the weight of their deep-seated distrust. Chase and Arianna spend the next two years on opposite sides of the globe, avoiding each other at all costs. Despite the lies they tell themselves, neither one is ready to let go. Even though they are both engaged to other people, they can’t find it in their hearts to forgive each other or to move forward. A family emergency calls Arianna home, where they have no choice but to face each other again. Will they finally admit the truth, or will they remain forever trapped between love and hate?

I was warned about Tristan Cole. “Stay away from him,” people said. “He’s cruel.” “He’s cold.” “He’s damaged.” It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster. But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me. We were both empty. We were both looking for something else. Something more. We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays. Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

Lawless ~ T.M. Faizier ~ Blog Tour

Lawless is book three in the King Series and is Bear and Thia's raw, and gritty tale!

 Barnes & Noble:
Paperback Amazon:

Thia is prim and proper.
 Bear is leather and lawless.
It will never work between them.
It's a lie they almost believe.

“I’m going to remember this as the worst time in my entire life. The very worst.” She shook her head. “There is nothing I can do to change that. Girls my age are playing sports, going to dances and parties, kissing boys. And that’s never been me. I’ve had a full time job at the grove and a part time job at the Stop-N-Shop. I’ve done nothing over the last few years except work my ass off and watch my family fall apart. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse…now all this.” She waived around to the house and to me and let out an awkward laugh. She took another hit off the bowl, passing it back to me. Her coughing much less than it was on her first try. “Ti, how old are you?” I asked, clearing my throat as I ventured into territory I knew I shouldn’t. She was a pistol, even if she was a sad one, but there was a wave of innocence about her that had me both feeling bad for her and salivating for a taste of her. This is for her, not you. I told myself. It was only a partial lie. “Seventeen,” She said, sniffling. “Eighteen soon.” “You ever been kissed?” I asked, her eyes met mine. “And not a peck on the cheek or a brief smack of the lips, but a real fucking kiss? One that leaves you without air in you lungs and your thighs pressing together in search of more?” I said, my voice coming out deep and strained. My cock coming alive at the thought of tracing my tongue along her pump lips. “Why?” She whispered, and as soon as the words left her mouth I knew there would be no coming back from what I was about to do. I pushed off the fire pit and pulled her up off the chair, pressing her tits into my chest and my straining cock against her stomach. I tipped her chin up and looked into her confused emerald greens. She followed my thumb with her eyes as I traced her bottom lip. There were too many lines marring her face, questioning what it was I was up to. I knew she would try to pull away at any second, try to stop me. But it was too late for that. I was beyond stopping. Just one taste. “Answer the question,” I pressed. “No,” she said with a slight shake of her head, and before she could try to argue, I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers. I was already going to hell. Might as well enjoy the ride there.

Anything for You ~ Kristan Higgins ~ COMING SOON and Review

Before you get down on bended knee…

…you should be pretty darn sure the answer will be yes. For ten years, Connor O'Rourke has been waiting for Jessica Dunn to take their on-again, off-again relationship public, and he thinks the time has come. His restaurant is thriving, she's got her dream job at Blue Heron Vineyard—it's the perfect time to get married.

When he pops the question, however, her answer is a fond but firm no. If it ain't broke, why fix it? Jess has her hands full with her younger brother, who's now living with her full-time, and a great career after years of waitressing. What she and Connor have is perfect: friends with an excellent benefits package. Besides, with her difficult past (and reputation), she's positive married life isn't for her.

But this time, Connor says it's all or nothing. If she doesn't want to marry him, he'll find someone who does. Easier said than done, given that he's never loved anyone but her. And maybe Jessica isn't quite as sure as she thinks…

Elizabeth's Review

4 stars - Would Recommend to a friend

Review copy provided by publisher via Net galley

I've been enjoying the the Blue Heron series since I stumbled on Honor's story and was introduced to the Holland family and their wonderful community.
Connor O'Rourke has been a fixture of in the Blue Heron series as the fun friend/co-owner of the local hangout. In Anything for You, we see the evolution of his relationship with other series regular, Jessica Dunn. We discover that Connor is much more sensitive than we expected and that Jessica has a lot more going on in her life than she has previously let on.
It was wonderful to finally get to know Jessica and learn everything behind the facade she has been putting on for so long. This is definitely a "relationship" book as we get to see Connor and Jess from their very first interaction to 20 years later when they are trying to figure out how to either be together or be without each other.
Ms. Higgins does a fantastic job of delving into the emotional issues that both Connor and Jess are dealing with and getting to the crux of things. She makes you root for both of them from the beginning and go on the roller coaster that is their relationship with them. The supporting cast is fantastic as always. They, especially the siblings, play a big role in the story. All of the supporting cast lend humor to various situations. I really hope we come back to Blue Heron winery soon!
